My 13th Spoonflower Challenge entry is on the theme of Desert Modernism. The challenge is being held in conjunction with the Modern Phoenix organization. Personally, I was over mid-century modern by 1967, but undoubtedly desert modernism represents a classic era in Arizona architecture and interior design.
I thought my best route to success here was to select a good desert palette and I landed on the pale earth tones, with a cactus green. For my motif, I chose a 2008 drawing from my archives — a little magic, a little petroglyph, a hint of R. Crumb (“Keep on truckin'”). I call it “Desert Wanderer… big feet, empty stomach, strange ideas popping from his head. Haha.
The winner’s fabric will be featured on a pillow during Modern Arizona Week. But, you know me — I’d much rather dress a doll than a pillow. Hence, my t-shirt dress mock-up — the most fun part for me.
