The New York Times this week published “Dogs Before Instagram: Vintage photos from the New York Times archive show the enduring power of the pooch.” I’m not really a dog person, but vintage I got! This photo of a darling young girl and her pup is from our late 19th-century tintype collection.
I posted it on Flickr in 2011. Amazingly, I got a comment from a woman who also had a tintype of the same girl and dog, in a different pose. (She showed me, but I don’t know where the image went.). Tintypes are unique images (only a single direct print from each camera shot). To have someone surface with one from the same sitting is one of those rare “sparkly” internet moments.
Wine poured.
